Unfortunately, vulnerable children are often injured as a result of someone else’s negligence. There are some very important first steps you should take if your child has been injured. Obviously, if your child is seriously injured, the first thing you should do is make sure they receive the medical attention they need. Secondly, I would discourage you from talking with insurance companies about those injuries. Oftentimes, they will contact you after an accident and want to ask you some questions. However, these calls are more than likely being recorded, and the insurance company’s primary interest is obtaining information they may be able to use against you later on. Third, you should contact an experienced injury attorney as soon as possible. Your attorney will be able to get involved in the case on your child’s behalf and make sure all required insurance documents are filed and all pertinent laws are obeyed. If the insurance company continues to call, you can tell them that you have retained an attorney and if they have any questions, they can address them with your lawyer.
