Adults might ask why they should come forward now, and the answer that I give is that now, in New York State, you have additional protections if the abuse happened while you were a child. Adults often come forward to be able to move past it, to find justice, and then in so doing, hopefully be able to find peace as well. Once we help them with the process, and once they’re able to either face their accusers, or have those who are in a position of power face up to what happened and take responsibility for it, it can be healing.
